The idea

This is how we picture it

First the Turkey of empires: Istanbul, the caves of Cappadocia and the terraces of Pamukkale. Then a change of century in a two-hour flight: Dubai, where the desert is viewed from the hundred-and-somethingth floor.

This is a trip idea, not a fixed package: every version is designed around the person living it.

Days 1-4

Istanbul, unhurried

Three nights for the city of two continents: mosques, cisterns, bazaars and a Bosphorus crossed by ferry the way others take the bus.

Ottoman art is on the ceilings: remember to look up.

Days 5-8

Cappadocia and Pamukkale

The valleys of wind-carved rock, a night in a cave hotel and the white mountain of Pamukkale with the ruins of Hierapolis on top.

This is the part of the trip where the landscape rules: you come here to get up early, because the good light in Cappadocia lasts an hour.

Valleys of Cappadocia

Thermal water has spent millennia building these terraces, with no blueprint and no hurry.

Days 9-12

Dubai, the vertical desert

Four nights between the gold souk and the Burj Khalifa, with a dune safari at sunset and a city that invented itself in fifty years.

Dubai is the exact counterpoint to Turkey: there everything is centuries old, here everything is brand new. Seeing them back to back is what makes the trip.
