The Caribbean on our own doorstep
Five days between the reef and the breeze of the Honduran Caribbean
The idea
This is how we picture it
The Honduran Caribbean as few know it: crystal-clear water, the second largest reef in the world and sunsets that paint the sky orange.
This is a trip idea, not a fixed package: every version is designed around the person living it.
Day 1
Arrival on the island
A flight from the city and a transfer to the beachfront hotel. The first afternoon is for settling in: feet in the sand, a welcome cocktail and the sound of the Caribbean.
The flight crosses the Caribbean in under an hour and the island appears all at once, green over turquoise water. The rest of the day has no plan, and that is on purpose: arriving on an island is also done slowly.

Days 2-3
The reef and the adventure
Snorkelling on the Mesoamerican Reef, kayaking through mangroves and a trip to the nearby cays. For the bolder, certified diving along coral walls.
The Mesoamerican Reef is the second largest in the world and starts a few metres from the shore, so you do not need to be a diver to see it. Whoever wants to go deeper, goes: people get certified on the island all year round.

You do not have to go far to find the Honduran Caribbean: it starts forty minutes away by plane.

West End and farewell
The village of West End with its restaurants over the water, Garifuna crafts to shop for and one last sunset before heading home with salty skin and a full soul.
West End can be walked end to end with wet feet. At sunset the restaurants bring the tables out over the water and the sky does its thing, which on this island is a punctual and free show.
