The wall, the warriors and the future
The Great Wall, the terracotta warriors and the future by bullet train
The idea
This is how we picture it
Three cities and three Chinas: the imperial one in Beijing, the buried one in Xian and the one still being built in Shanghai. Between them, high-speed trains that are part of the trip, not a transfer.
This is a trip idea, not a fixed package: every version is designed around the person living it.
Days 1-4
Beijing and the Great Wall
The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the hutongs and a whole morning for the Great Wall, which you do not visit: you climb it.
The wall snakes as far as the eye can see, and the good stretch is earned by stairs. At the top you understand why they built it there.

Days 5-6
Xian and the buried army
The terracotta warriors: thousands of life-size soldiers, each with their own face, buried for twenty-two centuries to guard an emperor.
They were discovered by accident in 1974, while digging a well. The excavation is still open, and you get to see that too.

Days 7-8
Shanghai, the China to come
The Bund and its row of skyscrapers across the river, the old quarter, the Yu Garden and a last night with the skyline lit up.
Shanghai at night looks like a model of the future. The contrast with Beijing sums up the whole country.
